It’s the most wonderful time of the year – April. The season of 4/20 is now upon us, but many of us still face limiting circumstances as cannabis users. Some countries are open, or getting ready to open back up, while some remain locked down, or re-enter lockdowns. But even for the fortunate few who are free to travel and socialise, there are still restrictions in place. Face masks and six-foot distancing guidelines make it difficult to gather, but even more difficult to celebrate our favourite day of the year. Last time I checked, it was called puff-puff-pass, not puff-puff-throw. So what can we do to keep 4/20 fun without breaching those rules, or risk spreading germs?
The Covid-19 age has popularised a new way of holding gatherings – virtually. Online meetings for business, education and even family catch-ups have become the new norm, with apps such as Zoom, Discord, Hangouts, and Teams surging in popularity as they allow people to come together safely online. Socialising via these apps has grown in popularity over the last twelve months, so use this to your advantage and schedule a night online with your best buds. You can smoke, you can joke, you can spend the evening in each other’s company and the best things about it are that it’s free, and you can connect worldwide. Alternatively, browse your favourite sites and see who’s hosting 420 events online. Turn on, tune in, and smoke up.
Have a bake-off
If you’d rather have some activities to keep you busy on 4/20, get creative in the kitchen with some recipes for gummies, baked goods, dips or other edibles infused with CBD. A quick search of the Seedsman blog will return some great recipes for you to try at home, such as Jacqui Grant’s sumptuous CBD Bliss Bites, Aja Dodd’s Cannabis and Chocolate Banana Marble Loaf, or Mandy Gosselin’s Cannabis infused cheesy baked potatoes – to name but three – starter, main course and dessert are all covered! Or, take the day to experiment with your own cannabis recipes. If you’re new to edibles, Jacqui Grant’s blog, An Essential Guide To Cooking With Cannabis For Beginners, is a great place to start – and 4/20 is a great time to start.
From How High and any number of Cheech and Chong films, to Pineapple Express and The BIg Lebowski, there are countless classics with which to commemorate 4/20. Whether alone, or with your preferred company where appropriate, kick back and enjoy some of your favourite movies. Edibles are, of course, a must. Looking for something more high-brow? There are some wonderful documentaries online which give great insight into all things cannabis, from Ricki Lake’s medical marijuana documentary Weed The People, to the Netflix exclusive Grass Is Greener, where hip-hop legend Fab 5 Freddy takes you on a journey through the cultural, musical, and racial history of cannabis, covering both legislative and pop culture issues. Tip: There’s an extension called Teleparty (formerly Netflix Party) which allows you and your friends to watch content in sync with each other. Blaze up, fire it up, then connect and react in real-time.
Your favourite online resource has you covered for 4/20-related activity. Bone up on cultivation, or immerse yourself in cannabis history and culture via the blog section. Although for many of us, socialising is still either too risky, or ill-advised at this time, there are still plenty of ways to get involved, touch base with friends, and celebrate. Follow the relevant guidelines in your area, stay safe, and have a great 4/20.
